The Savona Improvement District is responsible in providing local services for the benefit of the residents in the community and is governed by it’s Letters Patent which is authorized by the BC Provincial Government through Cabinet Orders. Although SID is an independent public entity we are subject to supervision by the Ministry to provide services listed in our Letters Patent. Some of the services are listed below:
Cemetery
Savona has one cemetery which is located on the north side of Kamloops Lake. For access to the cemetery from Highway 1 – head to the west end of Savona traveling on Highway 1, cross the bridge over the Thompson River, and take a right turn when you cross the bridge and follow Savona Cemetery Road to the end.
Administration of the cemetery is conducted by the SID office. If you are needing any information regarding cemetery burials and / or reservations or assistance in finding a grave location and / or burial information please contact the office. (Please note that not all burial locations are marked.)
In BC, cemeteries are strictly regulated by the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act and the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. The District’s Savona Cemetery Bylaw provides procedures and processes for the following:

Street Lighting
Street lighting within the Savona Improvement District boundaries are managed by the District.
If you notice a street light is out in your area please let the SID office know by calling 250-373-2513 or by emailing savonadistrict@telus.net to report the outage.
Burning Permits
A burning permit is required for any opening burning during the burning season within the SID boundaries. Open burning season for SID is for the months of March and April as well as October and November each year for Category 2 fires.
Open burning is defined as an outdoor fire not contained in a fire pit or an authorized outdoor fireplace. To obtain a burning permit during open burning season, please contact the SID office. Burning permits are FREE.
Category 1 – campfires are permitted provided a campfire ban has not been issued. A campfire is defined as a fire no larger than 0.5m high and 0.5m in diameter
Category 2 – open air fires are only allowed during SID open burning season, if the Kamloops Fire Centre has not issued a fire ban for the region, and requires a burning permit issued from the SID office. Category 2 fire cannot be larger than 2m high and 3m in diameter.
Category 3 – land clearing burn piles require authorization from the Ministry of Forests and must have a burn registration number to light. These fires are anything larger than a Category 2 fire. Call the burn registration line: 1-888-797-1717
